PERSONAL CREW LOG — RIG 7

I’ve been working rocks for twelve years now.

Ceres. Vesta. Two contracts out past the Trojan clusters.

You learn pretty quick that asteroids are just dead stone and metal. No surprises. No secrets. Just drill, haul, and move to the next one.

AX-441 is different.

The drill cut through the outer crust yesterday like normal nickel-iron mix. But when the core bit hit the anomaly zone, the vibration changed.

You feel that kind of thing through the rig frame before the instruments even register it.

The rock stopped sounding like rock.

Engineering says the geometry in the scans must be a natural fracture pattern.

But fractures don’t come back as perfect angles.

And fractures don’t repeat.

Every scan we run looks more like a structure.

Something built.

Something buried.

Last night the sensors picked up something new.

The internal cavity isn’t empty.

There’s a surface inside the rock reflecting the scanner pulses.

Smooth.

Too smooth.

Like metal that’s been machined.

Corporate already locked down the data stream.

Half the scans we run disappear before they reach the main server.

They’re telling us to stand down and wait for the analysis team from Mars.

Nobody on this rig believes that’s going to happen.

Miners don’t wait around for corporate decisions.

We drill.

If this rock really does have something inside it…

then someone put it there.

And if someone put it there—

████████████████████████████
████████████████████████████
████████████████████████████

Corporate Security pulled the log right after that entry.

Nobody’s said anything out loud, but the whole crew feels it now.

There’s something inside AX-441.

And we’re getting closer to it every hour.
